Apple has released the first iOS 27.2 developer beta for iPhone, beginning the next major phase of software testing shortly after the public launch of iOS 27. The new developer build arrives on September 17, 2026, just days after iOS 27 became available to users.
The release is notable because Apple has seemingly skipped over iOS 27.1 for the moment. The company has previously positioned iOS 27.1 as an update with a particular focus on preparing software for the upcoming iPhone Duo, while the newly released iOS 27.2 beta begins testing a broader future update.
iOS 27.2 Beta 1 Arrives After iOS 27
Apple officially released iOS 27 on September 14. The major software update was reported as a substantial download, with the update reaching around 22GB in size in some circumstances.
Just days later, developers received the first iOS 27.2 beta 1 build.
The timing has raised questions about Apple’s release strategy, particularly because an iOS 27.1 beta has not yet appeared alongside the iOS 27.2 developer beta.
