ICAI President Meets J&K LG: Boosts Revenue, Unveils Centre of Excellence Plans

Charanjot Singh Nanda, President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), met Shri Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, to explore new pathways for strengthening the region’s financial ecosystem.

The discussion centered on how the CA profession can play a pivotal role in augmenting revenue and enhancing financial governance in Jammu and Kashmir. ICAI, through its active collaborations with the State Taxes Department and its initiatives for capacity building in local bodies, is committed to supporting these efforts. These efforts include specialised training, knowledge-sharing seminars and expert guidance on taxation, accounting, and financial management practices.

In addition, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor was apprised that ICAI is working on the research paper focused on “MSME in Jammu & Kashmir-Catalyst for Regional Development” to examine the challenges, opportunities and growth potential of the MSME Sector in the region in areas of sustainable tourism development, agricultural innovation, occupational patterns and Industrial growth, health care innovation, climate change etc.

The meeting also marked progress on the allotment of land to ICAI for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Jammu & Kashmir. The ICAI plans to establish a Centre of Excellence with residential facilities aimed to provide advanced training to CA students and Professionals and skill upgradation courses for qualified members. This initiative is a part of ICAI’s vision to set up 11 Centres of Excellence across India over the next three years to foster a robust environment for research, innovation, and skill development. Presently, three such centres are operational in Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Kolkata.

During the meeting, Shri Manoj Sinha assured full support from the administration towards early allotment of Land to ICAI for establishing the Centre of Excellence in Jammu & Kashmir.

Charanjot Singh Nanda, President, ICAI said, “In Jammu & Kashmir the presence and participation of Chartered Accountants have contributed to positive transformation by promoting transparency, supporting entrepreneurship, strengthening governance and promoting overall development in the region. To further encourage young aspirants from the region to pursue their dreams, ICAI offers a 75% concession in registration fees for all levels of CA courses.”

The President also extended an invitation to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for the upcoming ICAI Council Meeting scheduled in August 2025.
