New Delhi: Demonstrating its commitment to nurturing scientific curiosity and research-driven learning, Delhi Public School (DPS) R.N. Extension proudly announced that Ramya Singh, a student of Class XII-C, has successfully completed a prestigious research internship under the ‘Shadow-a-Scientist’ programme at the CSIR–Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), New Delhi.

During the internship, Ramya worked under the mentorship of Dr. Shamita Sanga on the project titled “Molecular Basis of Rare Diseases.” The programme provided her with hands-on exposure to the rapidly evolving fields of genomics and bioinformatics, enabling her to understand how laboratory research and computational biology complement each other in modern scientific investigations.

As part of the internship, Ramya gained practical experience in DNA isolation and learnt the fundamentals of molecular biology research. She also worked with globally recognised biological databases, including NCBI, GenBank, UniProt, and Ensembl, and acquired exposure to sequencing data analysis using FastQC and Fastp. Additionally, she learnt to perform sequence comparison and alignment using BLAST and ClustalW, while developing proficiency in Linux-based commands widely used in bioinformatics research workflows.

Reflecting on her experience, Ramya said, “This internship was an enriching learning opportunity that deepened my understanding of genomics and molecular biology. It strengthened my technical and analytical skills and inspired me to pursue scientific research with greater enthusiasm.”

Congratulating Ramya on her achievement, Mrs. Pallavi Upadhyay, Principal, DPS R.N. Extension, said, “We are immensely proud of Ramya’s accomplishment. At DPS R.N. Extension, we believe in providing our students with opportunities that go beyond classroom learning. Exposure to premier research institutions like CSIR-IGIB helps students develop scientific temperament, critical thinking, and innovation, preparing them for future academic and professional excellence.”

Ramya’s achievement reflects DPS R.N. Extension’s continued focus on experiential learning, scientific inquiry, and creating opportunities that empower students to excel in emerging fields of science and research.
