Reacting swiftly, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, “The Congress was all set to move a no-confidence motion against the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers tomorrow. Sensing the climate, the Manipur CM has just resigned.” He emphasized that this has been a key Congress demand since May 2023, following the eruption of violence in Manipur.
BJP Faces Internal Pressure Over Manipur Crisis Management
According to The Indian Express, several state BJP leaders had been pressuring the party leadership to remove Biren, citing dissatisfaction with both state and central management of the ongoing Manipur crisis. A dissident BJP MLA from the valley region criticized the lack of a concrete roadmap for peace, stating, “Neither the state leadership nor the Centre has come up with a roadmap for peace. We cannot wait anymore.”
