Patna, April 22 – Renowned Bhojpuri actress and producer Kanak Yadav expressed her concerns over the current state of the Bhojpuri film industry while attending a private event in Patna. She strongly criticized the dominance of a few individuals and highlighted the growing disparity in opportunities and payments for artists in the industry.
Stars Rule, Others Struggle”
Kanak Yadav stated that hero-worship culture is prevalent in Bhojpuri cinema, where a few stars control the industry’s direction. “The fate of Bhojpuri cinema is decided by a handful of people. In most cases, the producer — who invests the most — is left helpless,” she said.
Producers Are the Real Victims
She further emphasized that uneducated and ill-suited individuals have filled the industry, leading to its downfall. Kanak voiced concern over the lack of professionalism and the misuse of power by influential figures.
Unequal Pay, Biased Opportunities
Kanak revealed the gender pay gap, saying that while male leads receive lakhs as remuneration, actresses are paid far less. “Roles are not given based on talent, but based on the hero’s recommendations,” she added.
Scripted Controversies for Publicity
She also spoke about the controversies surrounding Bhojpuri films, claiming that many of them are staged for publicity. “These controversies are intentionally created to keep the market heated and to remain in the limelight,” Kanak noted.
Appeal for More Cinema Halls in Bihar
Calling for government support, Kanak urged authorities to promote small cinema halls across Bihar. “Bihar is the biggest market for Bhojpuri films, but cinema halls have become scarce. The government should invest in building more small theaters to bring audiences back to the big screen,” she concluded.
