Chandigarh, 8th August 2025 – In a strategic step to strengthen Punjab’s industrial ecosystem, the state’s Industries Minister, Sanjeev Arora, announced the formation of 15 new sectoral committees. These committees will unite experts from diverse industries to serve as advisors, providing targeted policy recommendations for their respective sectors.

Leadership for the Retail Sector

For the Retail Sector Committee, the Punjab Government has appointed Umang Jindal, CEO of Homeland Group, as Chairman. Under his leadership, the committee will study policies and frameworks from other progressive states to develop a best-in-class policy framework tailored to Punjab’s retail landscape.

The core objective is to deliver a structured set of inputs for a customised industrial policy framework, ensuring sustainable and organised growth in the retail industry.

Collaborative Industrial Roadmaps

The Department of Industries & Commerce is launching an initiative to design customised, transformational roadmaps for key industrial sectors in Punjab. This effort will be collaborative and industry-driven, built through extensive consultations with stakeholders to ensure maximum impact.

Minister’s Statement

Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora stated:

“The Government of Punjab, under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, is dedicated to fostering a progressive ecosystem for industrial growth, innovation, and sustainability, alongside robust employment generation across the state.”

Chairman’s Vision

Expressing his gratitude, Umang Jindal said:

“It is an honour to be entrusted with the role of Chairman for the retail committee formed by the Punjab Government. The retail landscape in Punjab is undergoing a transformative shift, driven by evolving consumer aspirations and the need for more experiential, community-centric spaces. I look forward to contributing meaningfully to this journey and helping shape a more vibrant, organised, and future-ready retail ecosystem across Punjab.”

Significance of the Appointment

Umang Jindal’s appointment comes at a time when Punjab’s urban centres are seeing increasing demand for curated retail experiences. The move is seen as a proud moment for the real estate fraternity, recognising his progressive leadership and commitment to organised growth in the region.
