Kolkata, August 21, 2026 – Nine people, including a four-year-old child and two women, were killed and six others were injured in a fire that broke out in a five-story building in Kolkata late Tuesday night. Following the incident, the West Bengal government has ordered an investigation into the cause of the fire. Officials said the building housed several hotels.

Rajya Sabha aspirant and senior BJP leader Kuldip Maity said, “I am shocked by the news of the nine deaths. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the nine innocent people who lost their lives in this tragic incident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this unbearable loss.” Maiti said, “This incident in Kolkata is extremely heartbreaking. The loss of nine lives in this manner is a matter of deep sorrow for all of us. I stand with the affected families in this hour of grief.” Kuldip Maity demanded from the state government and administration that proper treatment be immediately arranged for the injured and financial assistance be provided to the families of the deceased. He also demanded a high-level investigation into the cause of this fire and strict action be taken against the culprits to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future. He said, “The cause of the fire should be ascertained and the responsible officials and agencies should be held accountable.

Strict adherence to fire safety standards should be ensured in a large city like Kolkata.” Kuldip Maity appealed to party workers to go to the affected areas and cooperate with the administration in relief work. He said that every possible assistance should be provided in the form of food, medicine, and shelter. He said that the entire country stands with Kolkata in this difficult time. We must all work together to ensure that the affected families receive justice and receive every possible assistance.
