Patna, May 24: In a landmark initiative aimed at restoring the dignity of Bhojpuri cinema, Skamakhi Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and filmmaker Chetna Jha jointly hosted the first-ever “Maha Press Conference” at the prestigious Hotel Maurya in Patna. The event focused on promoting clean, family-friendly content, preserving the richness of the Bhojpuri language, and uplifting regional cinema.
The conference was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of Art, Culture & Youth Affairs of Bihar, Shri Motilal Prasad, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism Shri Raju Kumar Singh, and Chetna Jha herself.
Chetna Jha Calls for a Cultural Reawakening in Bhojpuri Films
Speaking at the event, Chetna Jha highlighted how Bhojpuri cinema, which began with pride under the guidance of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, has gradually lost its cultural dignity. She emphasized the need for better scriptwriting, pure language, and inspiring themes.
“My upcoming film ‘Anmol Ghadi’ will be shot entirely across Bihar. Our mission is to produce clean, meaningful films that resonate with the youth,” she said. Jha also proposed the development of a strategic roadmap in collaboration with theatre owners to give preference to quality Bhojpuri films.
Government Extends Support to Quality Regional Films
Minister Shri Motilal Prasad reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting regional language films, especially those made in Bhojpuri.
“If 75% of a film is shot in Bihar, it is eligible for a subsidy of up to ₹4 crore,” he announced. “Bhojpuri is our mother tongue. It must be associated with excellence, not obscenity. Films with clean language, positive messages, and social relevance are the government’s priority.”
Tourism Minister Highlights Opportunities for Filmmakers
Tourism Minister Shri Raju Kumar Singh emphasized the immense potential Bihar holds in the fields of art, culture, and tourism.
“We are committed to providing all possible facilities to filmmakers. Historical locations like Gaya, Valmikinagar, and Vaishali are being developed as film shooting destinations,” he said. He also mentioned the approval of projects worth ₹800 crore under the Chief Minister’s ‘Progress Tour’ aimed at strengthening the state’s cultural and tourism sectors.
A Joint Vision for Respectful Cinema
During the conference, a collective voice called for giving Bhojpuri and other regional languages the respect and recognition they deserve. Chetna Jha further suggested that the government should work with theatre owners and distributors to implement a clear policy that promotes clean, meaningful cinema and restricts vulgar or double-meaning content.
This event marks a significant step toward the revival of Bhojpuri cinema—not just as entertainment, but as a medium for cultural pride, social connection, and positive influence.
